A Son Who Always Cared for Others

Occasionally on Sunday I would pick up my son Doug for Mass. He had a stroke in 2020 which affected his eyesight, so he could no longer drive. I would make him a couple of sandwiches because, after Mass, I would drop him off at Domar’s, where he worked all day.

One day after Mass, as we were leaving the parking lot, he told me to pull over in front of the church. Doug got out of the car and gave a man who looked really down on his luck his two sandwiches. I asked him why he gave away his lunch, and he explained to me that this man needed those sandwiches much more than he did.

This was the type of person my son was his whole life, always caring for others, especially those less fortunate.
