A Legacy of Kindness and Integrity
It’s hard for me to pick just one story that will embody who Doug was, so I will share with you the things that were important to Doug. Doug was the best person with the most solid moral compass that I ever met and will likely ever meet. Family and God were the most important things to Doug, and he lived every day honoring both. He was kind, humble, loyal, funny, social, and had a strong work ethic. He was honest to a fault and devout in his faith—not in a loud or showy way, but in the quiet, steady way that influenced everyone around him.
As a father to my sons, he was nothing short of the best. He didn’t just tell them how to live; he showed them. He set an example every single day, especially how to work hard, treat people well, and do the right thing.
Doug was very social. He could not pass up an invitation, a game, a picnic, or any gathering of any sort. He was not just the one to organize, cook, set up, and shop for get-togethers; he was the guy who would stay after to stack the chairs, clean up, and be the last to leave. He made everyone feel like they were exactly where they were supposed to be.
We miss him deeply, but we take comfort knowing that his faith has carried him home, and that his example will keep shaping us for the rest of our lives.
